About Border Buy

Border Buy is a free price-comparison tool for people who live in, travel through or shop across Europe. The idea is simple: the same phone, laptop, coffee machine or bookshelf often costs a noticeably different amount depending on which side of a border you buy it. Prices are set country by country, VAT rates differ, retailers run national promotions, and currencies like the Swiss franc, the Polish złoty or the Swedish krona move against the euro every day. Finding out whether a trip across the border is worth it usually means opening a dozen browser tabs in languages you may not speak. Border Buy does that legwork for you in one search.

What we do

You type one product name and choose up to three countries. Border Buy then looks up current listings for that product at a short list of well-known retailers in each country, such as IKEA, MediaMarkt, Fnac, Coolblue or Elgiganten, and shows you the cheapest matches side by side. Prices appear in the local currency, and with one tap you can convert everything to euros so the comparison is fair. A summary table highlights the cheapest country and shows how much more you would pay elsewhere.

Why we only show verified retailers

Online marketplaces are full of listings from resellers you have never heard of, with prices that can be misleading, products that are grey imports, or shops that do not deliver what they promise. We deliberately leave all of that out. Each country has a whitelist of established retailers with physical stores or a strong national presence. If a product is only available from an unknown shop, we would rather show you nothing than send you somewhere you cannot trust. When nothing is found, Border Buy says so plainly. We never estimate, guess or invent a price.

How Border Buy is funded

Border Buy is free to use and does not require an account. To pay for the price data and hosting, the site shows a small number of clearly labelled advertisements and some "View at store" links are affiliate links. If you buy something after following such a link, the retailer may pay us a small commission. This never changes the price you pay and never changes the order of results: results are always sorted by price, and retailers cannot pay to appear or to rank higher. Border Buy is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of the retailers listed.

Our limits

Prices change often, sometimes several times a day, and the price in a physical store can differ from the one listed online. Search results are cached for up to 24 hours to keep the service fast and affordable, so always confirm the final price, availability and delivery options on the retailer's own website before you buy. Currency conversions use daily reference rates published by the European Central Bank; your bank or card provider will use its own rate and may add fees. You can read more on our How it works page.
